FAQ
Do I need any prior experience to start EFMC Pro? What if I already play a little?
No. EFMC Pro starts from the very beginning. If you've never touched an Erhu, you're in the right place. If you already play a little, you'll move through the early modules faster—but I recommend going through them anyway, because many players have gaps in their fundamentals that show up later.
What exactly is Erhu Labs? Do I have to join?
Erhu Labs is a weekly guided practice program that runs alongside the course. It's where you actually implement what you learn. You don't have to join, but students who do improve much faster.
How does the 30‑day free Labs work?
EFMC Pro includes 30 days of complimentary Erhu Labs access. After that, you can choose to continue at $97/month. You will not be charged automatically unless you separately subscribe.
What's the Live Coaching Seat?
EFMC Pro members are eligible to reserve a Friday Live Coaching Seat inside Erhu Labs. When selected, you can receive direct feedback on your playing during a Friday session. Spots are limited and scheduled in advance, so not every member will be coached every week — but everyone can watch, learn, and apply the feedback to their own playing.

What's the onboarding call?
Within your first 30 days, you get a private 30‑minute video call with me. I assess your current level, tell you exactly where to start in the curriculum, and give you a clear weekly practice plan. It's included with EFMC Pro.
Do I need to read music?
No. JianPu (numbered notation) is introduced gradually as part of the course. You'll build it step by step.
How long do I have access?
Lifetime access. You can revisit the material whenever you want, and you get all future updates at no extra cost.
What Erhu and equipment do I need to get started?
You'll need a playable Erhu. A good instrument in the $400–$800 range will serve most students well for years. If you already have a more expensive Erhu, that's fine too—you can absolutely start with it. The most important thing is that your instrument is properly set up and responsive.
For the course, you just need a device to watch the videos. For Labs, you'll need a laptop, tablet, or phone with internet access. Cameras and mics stay off during Labs, so you don't need any special equipment.
What if I don't like it?

Is this course available internationally?

Private lessons are one-on-one sessions with Jeffrey focused entirely on your playing. Unlike the Labs, which are group sessions, private lessons give you direct, personalized attention on whatever you're working on.
